Tattoo Healing Instructions

~Welcome to the second half of the tattoo process (the healing process). This is

equally important to your tattoo, the overall appearance of the healed tattoo depends on how well you take care of the tattoo during the next few weeks. The following instructions will guide you during this process.

1. You will leave the studio wearing a bandage. This is to protect the tattoo from the elements and any oozing body fluids during the next few hours. When a few hours have passed, carefully remove the bandage and throw it away. This will be the last time you use any kind of bandage. Gently and briefly wash the tattoo using warm water and liquid anti-bacterial soap (Dial or Soft soap in a pump). Make sure you rinse all traces of soap away, then lightly pat the tattoo dry, next let the tattoo air dry for a few minutes as you continue to pat any seeping fluid from the area with a clean paper/cloth towel.

2. Once your tattoo has stopped seeping, it is time to apply the ointment. We recommend TATTOO GOO or A&D ointment. Apply a thin coat of TATTOO GOO to the tattooed area with a clean hand, next pat off any excess ointment with a clean paper/cloth towel.

3. For approximately 3 to 4 days, depending on how long it takes your tattoo to finish pealing, continue to apply a thin coat of TATTOO GOO once or twice daily. Wash your tattoo once a day during normal bathing (shower). After washing your tattoo repeat step 2.

4. After your tattoo peels on its own (please do not pick or scratch the tattoo this will cause it to fade), discontinue the use of ointment and switch to a hypoallergenic lotion like Curel or Lubriderm. This will keep the new layer of skin from getting excessively dry, you only need to apply lotion once a day. For the next three to four weeks we recommend you keep your fresh tattoo out of direct sunlight and contact with ocean, lake, pool or spa water. After your tattoo is healed it is important to always use a good sun block on your tattoo, this will help to preserve the dark lines and bright color.
